00 an hour Under general supervision, the Jailer ensures the safety, security, and orderly operation of the inmates and daily routines in the Mahaska County Jail.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Monitors activities to ensure the jail is secure and that inmates are not able to escape; corrects inmate behaviors as needed.
Supervises inmate actions utilizing direct supervision techniques to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and prevent physical harm to inmates and staff; writes reports detailing daily activities and any incidents that occur.
Maintains a post log regarding all the events that occur during the shift; documents observations regarding positive and negative inmate behaviors.
Responds and diffuses emergency and dangerous situations to include fights, suicide attempts, and assaults; applies force as needed to prevent inmates from harming themselves, other inmates, or staff members.
Must be 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED, and maintain a valid driver's license.
